The requirement for a Schengen visa depends on your nationality. There are around 60+ countries that have signed a visa-free agreement with the Schengen region, so their citizens can visit visa-free in this region. Whereas, citizens of India, Nigeria, Pakistan, and 100+ other countries need a visa.
As per Schengen rules, UK citizens are exempt from the visa requirement for short stays and require a visa only for long stays in a Schengen country.
